2K Brings Onboard Apex Legends Lead to Boost Troubled Action Game Ambitious Title

2K Games has welcomed Ben Brinkman from Respawn Entertainment to direct the studio crew at their internal studio, which is currently working on the forthcoming third-person action-packed title known as this innovative game.

Management Change Follows Poor Feedback

The new appointee assumes the leadership position at 31st Union following the dismissal of former leader Michael Condrey, who was removed from his post due to the game's disappointing early showing last autumn.

Recently, 2K president David Ismailer notified staff about this strategic move through an official communication, which emphasized that playtesting had revealed the need for a clearer game identity.

The president noted that the team is now overhauling Project Ethos with a renewed focus, aiming to better meet player expectations.

Trend of Strategic Acquisitions

This announcement mirrors a comparable action taken by 2K Games in August, when they hired an industry veteran from the Diablo team to work on the BioShock studio Cloud Chamber.

Below is the entire message from the president's memo:

Dear Team—

I know you all just wrapped up your meeting - I hope you’re as excited as I am with the good news. Last time I sent you all a message, I mentioned the following: “I believe in this team. You all are some of the most driven and talented designers we have had the opportunity to collaborate with - and we’re eager for that partnership to persist.”

With your dedication and flexibility, especially over the last year, you repeatedly show that.

The player input from last autumn’s the game playtest was informative. It validated the promise of a action-packed game but made clear we still had work to do. It revealed the requirement for a more distinct brand.

It has been motivating to see how far you’ve progressed. You accepted the criticism to mind and revamped Project ETHOS with a revitalized direction - one that’s ready to fulfill its promise to our audience.

Our confidence in Project ETHOS grows every day. To further the incredible progress you’ve made, I’m excited to introduce the new hire as the latest Director of the team. Following a period of conversations, Ben officially joins us on Monday, October 20.

Ben’s management and background in the competitive gaming field is considerable, having spent the recent years creating and managing some of the most popular series in gaming, for example the acclaimed shooter, and lately, Apex Legends.

I invite you all in receiving him next week. We are all excited to keep observing the progress of the game in the months to come.

The President

Experience of the Incoming Leader

Brinkman presently serves in the role of senior developer and head of production at the renowned studio for Apex Legends. Brinkman previously was employed at major gaming companies in multiple production roles on the iconic franchise series, and, earlier in his career, had assignments at other industry leaders.

Game Information and Vision

Project Ethos was announced in last year together with a community playtest. Initially, the developers portrayed the title as a "free-to-play, 3rd-person action-packed experience and an exciting step forward on the category."

"Create your ideal gameplay session—or face defeat—in this engaging over-the-shoulder adventure! Customize your character in real-time to match your preferred approach," the official summary reads. "Challenge the opponents with fresh skills, challenges, and challenges that evolve every session. Do you withdraw carefully with your collected items? Alternatively aim high, gamble everything, and pray your group can earn top ranking? The option is up to you."

Project Ethos does not have an announced launch window or platforms, but enthusiasts can look forward to more updates as creation continues.
